Hi-fi grain
This short series of drawings speculates on replicating raw material grain through synthetic, digital procedures. Within each drawing, hundreds of Euclidean circles that loosely trace the sinuous curvature of material grain found in each found timber object layer, overlap, and densify to produce ‘digital grain’. Lineweight and tonal line values are in continual fluctuation, emulating the precarious dance that is inherent to raw material grain.Through this representational process, materiality undergoes a certain level of reductionism and abstraction that distances itself from its natural state, creating a synthetic yet familiar palette. The series includes both pre-and-post-processed timber materials to explore the capability of realism in drawing within our current digital software.
